June 3, 2010

The Park has returned to full operation. Activities include soccer, baseball, and men and women’s softball. Joshua’s Paintball Jungle is back to a full schedule this season. Aaron Schedlin is heading up the paintball activities this year and he is supported by many of the long time volunteers.
Of course, the big news is the baseball pavilion is complete. The final push occurred in April under the direction of Dan Dutton. The following individuals are to be commended for this April effort Al Boudrias, Carl Cottrone and Brian Shea. Please thank these individuals for their hard work and commitment to this effort. Rik and Marlene Benson have taken on the baseball concession activities and by all indications we will have a successful season.
Here are the points of interest as we look out in to 2010:
There was an April reception at the Park to honor Marilyn Dyjak’s long service as Concessions Director. Diane Mickles also took advantage of the day to introduce many of the new menu offerings for this season. We wish Diane all the best.
- The Greece Buccaneers held their annual soccer tournament on May 21, 22 and 23. 96 games were played at the Park by participants from all over western New York and Canada. Concession activities were brisk and many thanks to the volunteers that helped with concessions. The Buccaneers are to be commended for their efforts and they supplied many volunteers to help us with concessions and cleanup. This is a quality event run by an organization committed not only to the sport but also the children of the community.
- The Park hosted the Nazareth Academy Women’s softball team this spring. This is their last season at the Park due to the announced closing of their school. It has been an honor for us to serve the many fine young women who have played softball and soccer for Nazareth over these past years. We will miss them and their many fans.
NCA’s baseball team had another successful spring season at the Park. Their overall record was outstanding and we wish them well in Sectional competition. Greece Athena JV teams also played at the Park again this spring and G&T baseball is well underway with literally hundreds of players and their families attending games. In addition, three outside baseball groups are calling the Park home this season. The Rochester Cougars youth teams, the Greece Thunder youth team and NABA Wood Bat (adult league) baseball teams utilize our facility for their activities.
- The next big events scheduled for the Park are our Spirit of America 4th of July celebration and the Cobra soccer tournament. As you begin to think about where you spend your time this summer please consider giving 3 to 4 hours to either or both events. These events are scheduled over two consecutive weekends and many hands and hearts are needed to bring success.
- The Lawn croquet group has made a donation to the Park to help with our expenses. Many thanks to that group as they enter their second year of play. Plans for their small pavilion are being worked out with the Town of Greece. Construction should begin at some point this year.
- Two savings accounts have been opened on behalf of the Park. One is for funds to build the much needed septic system. This account now contains about 8% of the necessary funds to cover the construction cost.
- The second account was opened by a generous contribution in support of the purchase of a new mower for the Park. This single donation put us at 40% of the needed funds. Praise God for this family’s generosity and their ongoing support of Park activities.
Prayer Needs for 2010 and beyond:
- Completion of the original Park site plan including
o The construction of two picnic pavilions near the activities building
o Cost of the pavilions is estimated at $8,000 to $10,000 each
- Development of a summer basketball program
o Need to have a paved area to allow for the courts -$15,000
- Scoreboards for the seven baseball/softball fields
- Concrete floor for the south/JPJ pavilion - $2500
If you have any interest in helping us with any of these needs, please do not hesitate to contact me at grahamcrss@aol.com or through the church website.
A huge thank you to all of the families that continue to provide financial support to the SportsPark through your church offerings or United Way contributions. Praise be to God for your faithfulness. We could not survive without your generosity.
Last but certainly not least, the efforts of so many individual volunteers are reflected in the quality of the facility. These individuals come and share their time and talent and get little in the way of recognition. Thank you all so very much. Words cannot express the debt of gratitude you are due. Praise God for your faithful service.
In His Service,
