Dear Park Sponsors, Supporters & Friends,
Bob Dyjak and I are concluding the transition process. This has been a humbling experience for me. Your prayers and words of encouragement have been greatly appreciated. The Park is now resting and your Director of Field Operations, Dick Laging is hopefully resting as well.
Here are several points of interest as we look ahead to 2009:
-
Construction on the baseball quad pavilion/concession building has begun. This will allow the baseball ministry to better serve the children of the community and their families. The weather has not been good for the concrete work but Dan Dutton, Al Bourdias, Carl Cottrone, Mark Weston, Lyle Weston and Dave Bovee have worked around the weather to complete the foundation. Please thank them when you have the opportunity.
-
The numerous contracts we have with various sport clubs have been sent out. These contracts are our way of making a commitment to each club in the community while at the same time providing them with our expectations around SportsPark use for the coming season.
-
Many of you may not know that Nazareth Academy utilizes the Park for their varsity softball and soccer programs. The lack of quality playing facilities in the city has afforded us the opportunity to host and minister to the Nazareth ladies. This past soccer season saw the ladies from Nazareth win a co-championship in Section V’s Class C bracket. G&T SportsPark hosted two of their sectional games during the run to the championship.
-
This past October we began a cleanup effort at the Park to rid ourselves of unneeded items that had accumulated on the north side of the maintenance building. Additional items were removed from inside the building to better accommodate the bus ministry as they moved from the 1039 property. This effort will continue in the spring to upgrade the appearance of the Park.
-
As always there are numerous volunteer opportunities at the Park. Marilyn Dyjak will need help with both concession stands. As you make out your schedules for 2009 please consider at least 3 hours a month. We need you to share your time and talent with the community. Hank McLeod will be looking for assistance this spring as we put on a fresh coat of paint in many areas.
-
When you see Bob Dyjak wish him well. He continued as Park Director during the same time he fulfilled his responsibilities as Project Manager for the 990 building project. No easy task. He is very committed to the success of FBBC.
-
Completion of the original Park site plan including
-
The construction of a septic system
-
The construction of two picnic pavilions near the activities building
-
Replacement equipment for our two 48” mowers they are showing their age
-
Development of a summer basketball program
-
Need to have paved area to allow for the courts
-
Scoreboards for the seven baseball/softball fields
-
Health and strength for Dick Laging, Tommy Street, Tyler Steinhilber and Marilyn Dyjak as they prepare for the 2009 season.
Finally, a thank you to all of the families that continue to provide financial support to the SportsPark through your church offerings or United Way contributions. These contributions reaffirm that our decision to build this community asset was right. Praise Be to God for your faithfulness.
In His Service,
Graham Cresswell
