    Welcome to the Grace&Truth SportsPark

    June 2011

The big story for the Park was the spring weather. In excess of 12 inches of rain was a little too much to handle. The early season baseball schedule was disrupted. The Greece Buccaneers soccer tourney had to be cancelled due to poor field conditions. All the fields were saturated and the drainage areas were flooded for the better part of a month. We are just beginning to see the low areas dry out at this writing.

On a brighter note a fund raiser at First Bible Baptist Church brought in approximately $16,000 for the Park. The plan is to purchase an LP grill for the Activities Building kitchen and a new lawn mower to help with field maintenance. Both these transactions should be finalized shortly

We are still optimistic that most of the soccer and baseball season will be salvaged. We should see over 300 games for both sports. As you can imagine managing the Park calendar has been quite challenging to date. Both Dick Laging and Rik Benson have kept up with all the rescheduling.

An electronic baseball score board has been installed on the ML baseball field. This addition to the Park was made possible through the efforts of Northstar Christian Academy and G&T Baseball. Many thanks to those involved.

Here are additional points of interest as we look at the 2011 season:

    • Construction of the small Lawn croquet pavilion inside their designated area continues. The pavilion is in the process of being painted inside and a little cleanup outside is all that remains to be done.

    • The work continues on our septic system improvements. The weather impacted the grading work but the recent good weather has allowed this work to progress now. We are close to seeding and hopeful that the lawn will be restored in the near future.

    • Happy 5 soccer will enter its’ 20 season in August. Volunteer recruitment is underway so please consider helping. Many hands are needed. If we do not have sufficient hands we will need to turn interested in participating away.

    • The fall soccer season will see the return of the LEAH (Home School) teams to the Park after a two year absence.

    • July is baseball tournament time at the Park. Both G & T Baseball and the Rochester Cougars Youth Baseball organization will be hosting games throughout the month. The age groups involved are 8 through 13. Clubs from around the area have signed up to participate.

    Prayer Needs for 2011:

    • A concrete floor for the pavilion located next to the Annex building – cost will be about $3,500.
    • 6 baseball scoreboards – estimated cost is $2,000 each
    • Shade trees – estimated cost is $5000

If you have any interest in helping us with any of these needs, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A huge thank you to all of the families that continue to provide financial support to the SportsPark through your church offerings or United Way contributions. Praise be to God for your faithfulness. We could not survive without your generosity.

Last but certainly not least, the efforts of so many individual volunteers are reflected in the quality of the facility. These individuals come and share their time and talent and get little in the way of recognition. Thank you all so very much. Words cannot express the debt of gratitude you are due. Praise God for your faithful service.
